The Emptied Pen
I was chatting with my friend theindiequeen last night via a series of text messages, and we realized how long it's been since we've seen each other. And I realize that I'm partly to blame for that, because she is a songstress and plays out in and around the Atlanta area, and I've been to see her band before plus her playing acoustic solo, and I just haven't done it lately. This could be attributed to the fact that a lot of her gigs are during the week, and she often will start playing at 9 or 10 p.m., and I'm a mess at work the next day if I don't get enough sleep. But anyway, that's not really the point of this post.|
I've enjoyed being a member of theemptiedpen, a NW Atlanta/Cobb County writing group started by the illustrious oberonia, who has become a friend of mine through this community. I was unable to attend a few of the last meetings, and since that time, oberonia had some rather serious surgery, and has been recovering.
We have discussed on and off restarting the writing group, and I know she can't do it on her own. I've considered helping to take over, as long as we don't meet TOO often, since I have other things going on in my life, but I don't want the writing group to evaporate altogether. oberonia put a lot of time and effort into forming this group, and I want to pay homage to that by trying to continue it, but perhaps on a smaller basis - maybe meetings once a month?
I asked theindiequeen last night that if I started having the meetings again, and had them at my place (since the venue we were using before is no longer friendly to us), would she come? She answered enthusiastically that yes, she would, and she felt that a lot of the other core members of the group would come too.
So, I'm making this post, both in my journal and in the community, to see if there is some interest in continuing the meetings, perhaps at my place, and probably once a month to help us all galvanize our writing skills and jump-start our creativity.
I live in Vinings, just barely ITP, but still in Cobb Country. I have an Atlanta mailing address, but I'm a hop, skip and a jump from Marietta/Smyrna. I could provide coffee, tea, and perhaps some light snacks, as I think we'll probably meet early to mid-afternoon, and maybe have an hour to two-hour meeting once a month for starters.
What are your thoughts? (I'm posting this in my journal also.)
